此為上九層，即東地獄，雖叫法與酆都略有不同，可見地獄何其多也，並非董某手誤。而《水陸全圖》中的下九層的西地獄，則更為殘酷…… 平常人們所說的十八層地獄，數目是對了，但從意義上卻不見得理解。《十八泥犁經》中講到這十八層的差別，最主要不在於空間的上下，而在於時間和刑法上的不同，尤其時間上。
